Shantae may have lost her genie powers in her last adventure on DSiWare, but she’s back in a new adventure on the Nintendo 3DS eShop! In Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, our ex-genie hero has found herself teaming up with Risky Boots to save Sequin Land from a powerful force. WayForward has created some amazing franchises, but my personal favorite is Shantae. Starring the titular half-genie known as Shantae, you serve as the guardian of Scuttle Town, protecting the townspeople from the female pirate Risky Boots. The first game in the series, Shantae on Game Boy Color is a very tough find these days, often selling for over $100 online. While you can already purchase its sequel, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge for DSiWare, WayForward has announced via Nintendo Power that the original is finally on its way to the Nintendo 3DS eShop. While we still have to wait a few months to get our hands on the hair whipping adventure once again, be sure to stay tuned here for even more WayForward news. Have you already played Shantae on GBC? -Greg Boe (admin)
Many developers are currently making 3DS games as of present, but most of you have overlooked WayForward, the geniuses behind Shantae for Gameboy Color, and It’s brilliant DSiWare sequel, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge. Here’s some good news, I e-mailed Matt Bozon (Creative Director) from WayForward asking what 3DS games they have in development, and to my surprise, I actually got a response. He said:
“Show this to the old woman. And to all of your readers please [not shown]. Also, yes we’ve got Spongebob Squigglepants 3DS available now, and Centipede and Happy Feet Two are on the way. We can’t comment on any of the titles from our publishing partners unfortunately, so you’d need to contact Konami and Majesco directly.”
So there you go, and in other news, WayForward plans to re-release the GBC Shantae game for 3DS Virtual Console. - Greg Boe (admin)
