It’s crazy to think that Sony’s PlayStation 2 has been around for 12 years, and I still play it regularly (especially Kingdom Hearts). In fact, the PS2 is the best-selling console in the history of gaming, closely followed by Nintendo’s DS. Nintendo of America CEO Reggie Fils-Aime has addressed this:
“You know, PlayStation has done a phenomenal job driving sales on what is a [twelve] year-old machine. They’ve done a phenomenal job, and they have been able to address different marketing over time, to build an incredibly large install base. We believe that the Wii system, similarly, will keep selling for quite some time. They’re going to be different addressable markets, not only from a U.S. perspective but from a global perspective… [but we'll] hopefully continue to drive sales at a historic rate.”
While lots of people say that the Wii is a “kids toy”, those who actually enjoy good games will notice some of the best games of the decade have been released on this system, and I agree with Reggie that the Wii will continue it’s great sales, even with the launch of the new Wii U. Do you agree with Reggie?
