Sakurai: “The Game System Itself is Complete” in Smash Bros.

Wondering where Nintendo is on the development of the upcoming Super Smash Bros. title? Well, series creator Masahiro Sakurai says that the title’s game system is complete, so I’d say it’s about 40% complete. Apparently, this title will stay very close to the gameplay in previous games, as he notes it won’t be played in a 3D environment, but we might actually be seeing less characters in this game than in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Here’s what he had to say:

“The game system itself is complete, so we don’t want to make it 3D or introduce complicated controls just for the sake of it. However, I am thinking of ways we can introduce a slightly different, fun experience all the while keeping the usual frantic game play.”

“I think Snake and Sonic joining were fantastic. It made many fans happy, and it broadened the Smash Bros arena. However, introducing more non-Nintendo characters willy-nilly will lose the focus of the game, so I also recognize the need to narrow it down.” -Masahiro Sakurai

While it looks like Sakurai-san is not in favor of many non-Nintendo characters in the initial release, nothing says Namco Bandai can’t just make DLC for more character packs featuring their biggest characters. What do you think about this? Do you like Sakurai’s strategy? -Greg Boe (admin)

I have to say I agree with Sakurai’s strategy about the 3rd party characters part, but I would say more Nintendo characters will be great, even if we need to get them in DLC little bit at a time whether it is Free for need to be purchased. Other than that, I am extremely happy that this game is almost half way done and I cannot wait to see the trailer real soon. I am a huge fan of the game and Fox is my main fighter in the game.
