We’ve been waiting for the North American release of Kingdom Hearts 3D for a long time, I would even go as far as to say it’s been too long, but it sure is nice to know that we’ll finally get our hands on the full game in little more than a month. Right now, you can download the demo to Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance] on the Nintendo eShop for no charge. With that in mind, we thought it was a good time to give you a quick preview of what you’ll get to see on July 31st in North America. Continue reading for the preview! -Greg Boe (admin)
In the full version of the game, you can choose to start your adventure as Sora or Riku, but the demo limits you to playing only as Sora. The two protagonists represent Light and Dark, and you’ll be thrown between their parallel adventures throughout the entire game, no matter who you choose to start with. This adds a lot to the already amazing games, and it makes the story progression less predictable. You could be fighting a boss as Riku and then pulled out in the midst of the action right into where you last left Riku. While this could seem frustrating, it actually adds to the game, and you’ll be put right to where you were taken from when you’re thrown to the other story. These stories intertwine, and even effect each other along the way.
While the demo was very brief (you could beat it in under a minute if rushing through), those who take the time to observe can actually get a lot out of it. One thing you’ll notice very quickly is that since our heroes are in the Mark of Mastery exam, they have some awesome abilities, including summoning Dream Eaters, and the new acrobatic move set of Flowmotion. With Flowmotion, you can literally throw yourself around the area by wall jumping, rail grinding, and swinging on poles. Oh yeah, did I mention that you have the ability to hover infinitely? Because it’s pretty awesome if you ask me.
Every Kingdom Hearts game is known for its inclusion of famous Disney worlds and characters, and this game is no exception. From the witty action of the Country of Musketeers to the Grid from Tron, you’ll see these famous worlds in ways you’ve never seen before. This series is also well-known for the inclusion of characters from other Square Enix franchises. In Kingdom Hearts 3D, you’ll see some Moogles from Final Fantasy, but much more surprisingly, the quirky characters from The World Ends With You. Stay tuned for our review on this game for more info regarding this.
