Many gamers have called Heroes of Ruin the Diablo of the Nintendo 3DS. Hopefully this game is as good as it looks, because if so, this could be the 3DS game we’ve been waiting for. As Heroes of Ruin gets closer to release, there are two things key to the game’s success: it’s got online multiplayer, and it’s got voice chat. If I’m not mistaken, this will mark the first ever 3DS game with online voice chat, so there’s definitely cause for excitement. The story is about four mercenaries trying to find a cure for the ruler of the city of Nexus, Ataraxis, a sphinx dying from the curse. The mercenaries can ether join up, or adventure separately, eventually getting face to face with the evil spirit behind this curse.
Heroes of Ruin is being published by Square Enix, most famous for the Final Fantasy series, and developed by n-Space, the team behind the Call of Duty series, so you can be sure this game has both solid gameplay, and good online. The game will be more in the vain of the action RPG; You’ll be doing things like talking to storyline characters and leveling-up weapons like in classic RPGs. On the other hand, you’ll also tap buttons in real-time to use those weapons. The game supports online for any of the story missions, and you can play any game up to four players either WiFi, or locally. And with the ability to drop in and out at will, you don’t have to feel rushed into things.
Heroes of Ruin isn’t even out yet, but the thing that should keep it you playing is the fact that it’s the first game on the handheld to use online voice chat. Imagine finally being able to communicate with friends over WiFi, instead of having to open up something like Skype on your computer in order to chat. This could very well pave the way for the future of Nintendo 3DS online play! Will this change the way we play online? Tell us what you think in the comments!
